SOUTH BEND — The signatures of dozens, if not hundreds, of northern Indiana residents were faked on petitions used to place presidential candidates on the state primary ballot in 2008, The Tribune and Howey Politics Indiana have revealed in an investigation.
Several pages from petitions used to qualify Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for the state’s Democratic primary contain names and signatures that appear to have been copied by hand from a petition for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jim Schellinger. The petitions were filed with the Indiana Election Division after the St. Joseph County Voter Registration Office verified individuals’ information on the documents.
St. Joseph County Prosecutor Michael Dvorak’s name appears twice on the Clinton petitions. After The Tribune faxed one of the signatures to him, Dvorak identified that signature as his own and confirmed that he had signed the petition. Dvorak did not respond after a copy of the second signature on the same petition was faxed to him by The Tribune.
Spokeswoman Lora Bentley later said the prosecutor could no longer comment on the matter because it was now under investigation.
Falsifying a ballot petition is a Class D felony in Indiana. According to Dale Simmons, co-legal counsel for the Elections Division, the statute of limitations for Class D felonies is five years.
‘Terribly obvious’
The Tribune has talked with more than 30 people besides Dvorak whose names are on both the Clinton and Schellinger petitions. All but one of them have confirmed their purported signatures on the Clinton petition are not genuine.
Erich Speckin, a forensic document analyst, examined the petitions at the request of The Tribune and Howey Politics.
He said there is clear evidence, based on the consistency of the handwriting, that about 20 pages in the Obama petition were filled in by the same person, and another person apparently filled in six or seven pages. He said it’s possible another two people filled in several more pages. Each page in the petition contains up to 10 signatures.
“It’s obvious. It’s just terribly obvious,” Speckin said, pointing to one of the writer’s idiosyncrasies repeated throughout the petition’s pages. MORE HERE: http://howeypolitics.com/main.asp?SectionID=39&SubSectionID=123&ArticleID=7136
Candidates rushed to qualify in 2008

Though the election has come and gone, the fabrications themselves could be criminally prosecuted.
“The point of collecting signatures is to demonstrate that you have the support of the people, so copying signatures flies in the face of the intent of that statute and is of course not in compliance with it,” said Anita Woudenberg, an election law attorney at Bopp, Coleson, & Bostrom and a member of the Vigo County election board.

Ex-Indiana governor: That's not my signature on Obama petition
Chicago Tribune
Former Gov. Joe Kernan says a signature on a petition to place Barack Obama's name on Indiana's 2008 primary ballot isn't his, putting him among dozens of dubious signatures found in a newspaper's investigation.
Kernan, a Democrat who campaigned for Hillary Clinton during the 2008 primary, told the South Bend Tribune that he didn't sign the Obama document.
"No, not at all," the former South Bend mayor said when asked whether the signature next to his name on the Obama petition looked like his own. "Nor does the printing look like mine."
The Tribune reported Wednesday that it has talked with more than 40 people who say they didn't sign ballot petitions submitted in St. Joseph County for Obama or Clinton, despite their names appearing on the documents.
State Republican Party Chairman Eric Holcomb has called for a federal investigation into the matter.

Wonder what they were paid to sit and forge signatures?
Going rate to *occupy Wall ST.* is $350 - 650/wk and they don't have to even think!
OMG this bunch of criminals would and WILL do anything! Of course, this will get absolutely NO coverage by the lame stream media. I'm so disgusted by it all.
@AR925
Someone get this forensics guy to examine and give an opinion on the forgery BC.
I hope other states check their Ballot Petitions, also! We're having a "voting incident", also, here in Colorado! State Election Laws state that only "active" voters can have ballots mailed to them---but Denver County and Pueblo County are filing a lawsuit "against the Republican Secretary of State (Scott Gessler), saying it's "discriminatory"! You may know that once Scott Gessler became S.O.S. of Colorado, he found 12,000 ILLEGAL "registrations", for people WHO WERE NOT ELIGIBLE TO VOTE! I bet you can GUESS which counties most of those ILLEGAL REGISTRATIONS came from!
@charlene
Do campaigns do their own petitition signing or they hire a company to do it for them?
Ever think that the entire 2008 election was a manipulated fraud? Remember how gas went up right when McCain took the lead in the polls? I went to like $4.50 a gallon. And even McCain as our nominee seemed odd.
the time has come to bring this crook to justice. its clear hes un american and a fraud its time for we the people to stand up and bring this government back under our control by getting rid of everyone. vote the ones out we can and remove the rest by bringing them up on charges. enough is enough!

I would trust the county prosecutor more than the U.S. Department of (In)Justice.
Important to look at 2008 but even more important will the Tea Party and Republican Party prevent widespread voter fraud and registration in 2012???
